4. Attaching the HandlebarsUpdated 5 months ago

Included with the scooter in the wrapping is a cardboard box, open this up as it contains tools for later steps. Inside the box is a ziplock bag, which contains two spanners (one large and one small) and two hex keys (one large and one small). The spanners have different sized heads at each end, with the size marked by a number (8 and 10 on the smaller spanner, 12 and 14 on the larger).

To attach the handlebars you will need the larger hex key, the larger spanner and the handlebar fittings, which are also in the black ziplock bag. The handlebar fittings consist of four long black bolts, four green nuts (the fifth nut in the bag is used for display, although all five nuts are identical), two bottom handlebar brackets and two top handlebar brackets (slight larger than the bottom brackets and with space for the bolt to fit in easily).

These fittings can be used to attach the handlebars to the scooter, using the four holes in the front fork of the scooter.

Make sure the handlebars are the right way around, with the controls on the handlebars facing the backwards towards the scooter and the brake levers in front of the handlebars. However when initially attaching the handlebars it is easier to do it with the handlebars resting on the scooter rather than pulled all the way up in their final position.

Place the top and bottom brackets above and below the handlebar respectively, then put the bolts through the brackets and the holes in the scooter frame. Lightly secure them with the nuts by hand. Then use the larger hex key (for the bolts) and the larger spanner (with the 12mm end for the nuts) to tighten the bolts.

Once you have tightened them enough that the handlebars hold themselves in position but can still be moved, pull them up and then sit on the scooter with your hands on the handlebars and adjust the handlebars position to one that is most comfortable for you. Taller riders will typically find a more vertical handlebar position more comfortable, whilst shorter riders may prefer a more horizontal position.

Once the handlebars are in the desired position, fully tighten the bolts.
